Business Travel Accident Myths

You need Business Travel Accident Insurance if:

You have employees who travel on business.  Employees who leave the office for any reason, by any method, are being put at a greater risk than those who do not.  Virtually every company has employees who travel on business, some without even realizing it.

Myth #1:  Business travel always involves flying, hotels, and fancy boardrooms.  My people don't travel.

In fact, business travel takes place anytime an employee leaves their normal workplace (whether their office or, in the case of telecommuters, their home) for the purpose of doing business.  Whether it's a 10-week excursion to China, or a 10-minute trip to the post office, it's business travel.

Myth #2:  All my employees are covered under the AD&D policy that comes with our Basic Life plan, so Travel Accident is redundant and I don't need it.

It's true that your employees are all covered equally under your Basic AD&D plan.  But not all of your employees are at equal risk of accidental death.  Think about it—are you more likely to be injured or killed sitting at your desk, or traveling, whether across town or around the world?

Your traveling employees put their and their families' well-being on the line every day to help your company succeed in your marketplace.  They deserve the added security and peace of mind that comes with knowing their families will be taken care of in the event of an accident.

Myth #3:  I book my airline tickets through AMEX, so I get coverage free from them.

American Express provides a great service by offering Travel Accident insurance on airline flights purchased through them.  Unfortunately, this only covers employees while they are on the airplane.  Since most business trips involve some sort of travel beyond the airport, you need another way to truly protect your employees.  Additionally, AMEX provides no coverage for local travel.

Myth #4:  My company goes places no insurance carrier would cover.

CIGNA Group Insurance, the leading accident carrier in the country, can cover your employees no matter where they go.  Clients include companies as well-traveled as CNN.

Myth #5:  Accidents hardly ever happen, so I don't need to worry.

Accident is the 5th-leading cause of death in this country, with over 100,000 deaths due to accident occurring each year.  For individuals age 38 or younger, accident is the number 1 leading cause of death in America.

Business Travel Accident Insurance is an easy, inexpensive, flexible way to take care of your employees and protect yourself should anything happen.  Contact your broker or employee benefits consultant today to learn more.
